But what exactly is behind this term, which is becoming increasingly popular, and why should you opt for a minimoon? A minimoon holiday offers the ideal opportunity for couples to take a short break from everyday life. Even a ‘change of scenery’ of just 4 days allows you to relax quickly.
Are classic honeymoons out?
No, on the contrary! We've noticed that many couples stay with us for a few extra days straight after their wedding night, so they take a MINIMOON straight after their wedding night and then fly off on their big honeymoon a few months later.
This is a smart trend, as it allows the newlyweds to recover from all the wedding excitement and impressions and perhaps enjoy a family breakfast in the hotel the next morning with relatives and friends who have travelled far and wide and whom they rarely see anyway. This approach is also a good way to combat the post-wedding blues. After all the hectic months of planning and dramatic events, newlyweds often come back down to earth hard. These feelings are much easier to overcome if you treat yourself to some time together after the big day and look forward to a wonderful adventure in a few months' time.
Is Minimoon now only for brides and grooms?
No, quite the opposite! A ‘minimoon’ - i.e. a shortened honeymoon, a city holiday or the famous change of scenery - are welcome breaks that are much easier to combine with work and other commitments, as it is less attractive to fly abroad when time is short. Another argument in favour of a minimoon is that you can relax with a minimum of travel - a short car journey and you can enjoy a sophisticated sundowner cocktail, relax in the HOTEL SPA and be pampered with a late riser's breakfast in bed the next morning.
What are the advantages of a minimoon?
There's no doubt that a short trip close to home costs much less than a tropical getaway. If you are looking for a short break and want to spend some time with your sweetheart before returning to reality, a short trip with themed rooms (from James Bond, Park Avenue to Zirben-Deluxe rooms) could be just the thing for you. Another pro is that you can take your dog and/or children with you. This can be both an advantage and a disadvantage, depending on what you expect from your holiday. If you're one of those couples who enjoy new experiences with your children (including fur babies), a trip to a dog-friendly boutique hotel close to home could be a real treat. Plus they save on the cost of baby-sitting/petsitting.
The third pro for me as a hotelier is that the right balance in life is key! I think it's extremely important to keep creating your own private hideaway! I often notice with some couples that the daily to-do list has become so long, there are so many decisions to make and it is also sometimes a challenge to keep all friends and relatives ‘happy’ in private. That's why it's highly recommended to catch up with the other half to see how they are doing and to strengthen the couple relationship. In this respect, a few days of togetherness with long spa evenings, a walk around the lake, a picnic in the park or a visit to a pub in Ingolstadt are not only enjoyable, but also important therapy!
My conclusion: As already mentioned, it is always advisable to have something to look forward to and remember afterwards.
Tip: If you are not that creative yourself, there is always a hotel team to help you! So with this in mind, ‘fire away’ for lots of mini-moons to your heart's content...
